Magnetic Island

23 BAYS AND BEACHES WAITING TO BE EXPLORED

Wander and explore the natural beauty of Magnetic Island. Almost 2000 people call this island home, but it's the furry locals that leave a lasting impression. Magnetic Island is home to Northern Australia's largest colony of koalas living in the wild. The Eucalypt forests and rugged landscape provide the ideal home for koalas and many other Australian animals - 166 different species to be exact.

Two-thirds of Magnetic Island is National Park with secluded, but easily accessible, bays and golden beaches. The island has nearly 25 kilometres of walking tracks meandering through the protected national parks.

Magnetic Island is the playground of Townsville, located just 20 minutes from the city centre by regular, fast cat ferries operated by SeaLink Queensland.

The island has quality self-contained accommodation as well as backpacker hostels, ensuring there's something here for every traveller. Enjoy a range of activities including boat trips around the island, guided tours, water sports, golf, diving expeditions, jetskiing, fishing, horse riding, and topless car hire.
